The City Palace of Udaipur is a symbol of Rajasthan’s royal past. Construction began in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur, and the palace was gradually expanded by successive rulers. The palace is located on the eastern banks of Lake Pichola and is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan.

the City Palace was the first place I visited, and it truly lives up to its reputation. Walking through its grand courtyards, I felt like I was travelling back in time to the days of the Mewar dynasty.

The architectural style of the palace is a mixture of Mughal and Rajasthani designs, with grand courtyards, balconies, towers, and domes. The interiors are just amazing, with beautiful mirror work, murals, and artefacts. This palace offers a panoramic view of Udaipur and its surrounding areas, including Lake Pichola and Jag Mandir.

I spent a good portion of my morning here, exploring the different courtyards, halls, and museums. One of the highlights was the Mor Chowk (Peacock Courtyard), where beautiful mosaics of peacocks.

For anyone visiting Udaipur, the City Palace is an absolute must-see.

One of the most famous attractions around the lake is the Lake Palace, now a luxury hotel, built on Jag Niwas Island in the 18th century by Maharana Jagat Singh II.

The lake remains a significant part of Udaipur’s history, serving as a lifeline for the city’s water supply.

After exploring the City Palace, I couldn’t stop myself from exploring Lake Pichola, one of Udaipur’s most famous attractions. A boat ride on this serene lake was one of the most peaceful experiences I had during my visit.

I took a sunset boat ride, and the view was magical. The reflections of the palaces in the calm waters, along with the orange glow of the setting sun, created a picture-perfect moment that I can’t explain!!!

Jag Mandir, also known as the “Lake Garden Palace,” is a beautiful palace located on an island in Lake Pichola. Construction began in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh and was completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I, after whom the palace is named.

This island palace is known for its impressive architecture and served as a refuge for Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan when he rebelled against his father, Emperor Jahangir.

Do you know: during the refugee time of Shah Jahan he liked the design of Jaga Mandir so he implemented its design in the Taj Mahal. so we can say that The palace influenced the design of the Taj Mahal.

The palace complex consists of stunning courtyards, gardens, and pavilions, with intricate marble carvings and sculptures of elephants. It is often regarded as an inspiration for the Taj Mahal.

As I stepped off the boat and entered Jag Mandir, I felt its peaceful atmosphere. The intricate carvings, and stone elephants at the entrance, were truly amazing. I spent some time in the garden, enjoying the view of the lake and reflecting on the palace’s history.

Fateh Sagar Lake is another beautiful artificial lake in Udaipur, built in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh. It was later reconstructed by Maharana Fateh Singh after a flood destroyed the dam, hence the name “Fateh Sagar Lake.” surrounded by beautiful hills and forests, making it a popular spot for tourists. In the middle of the lake lies the Nehru Garden, accessible by boat, offering a peaceful atmosphere for you and your family where all of you must feel relaxed.

I visited Fateh Sagar early in the morning to avoid the crowds, and it was a good decision. The cool morning breeze and the view of the calm waters against the backdrop of the hills made for a perfect start to my day. I also took a boat ride to Nehru Park, a lush garden on one of the islands. It is such a great spot to relax and enjoy a peaceful afternoon.

Built-in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh II, Saheliyon Ki Bari or “Garden of the Maidens” is a beautiful garden specially designed for the royal women. The garden was a relaxing place where the queen and her women friends (sahelis) could spend some relaxed time away from the royal court’s stress.

as I entered the garden, I was just shocked by the beauty of the fountains and lotus pools. The garden is filled with beautiful marble pavilions, and the sound of water flowing from the fountains was just incredible. I spent some time just walking around and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

This garden is famous for its lotus pools, marble pavilions, and beautiful fountains, many of which were imported from England. It’s a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy nature in Udaipur.

Sajjangarh Palace, which offers me the best panoramic view of Udaipur. Situated atop a hill, this palace provides a bird’s-eye view of the city’s lakes, palaces, and the surrounding Aravalli Hills.

History

Sajjangarh Palace, also known as the Monsoon Palace, was built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh. It was originally constructed as an astronomical centre and later used as a monsoon retreat for the royal family.

The palace is located on a hilltop and offers incredible views of Udaipur and the surrounding Aravali hills, especially during the monsoon season when the clouds descend upon the palace.

Though it’s relatively simple compared to other royal palaces in Udaipur, its location makes it a must-visit for those looking to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

I visited the palace during sunset, and the view was absolutely beautiful. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the entire city started to glow in shades of orange and pink. The palace itself did not have the best interiors, but the view and the peaceful atmosphere made it worth the visit.

It’s the perfect spot for photography and for enjoying Udaipur’s natural beauty from a higher point.

The temple is well known for its carvings, and large bronze statue of Shree Garuda (the vehicle of Lord Vishnu) at the entrance.

Jagdish Temple has remained a place of worship for over 350 years and is a significant cultural and religious place in Udaipur. The atmosphere was so calm and peaceful, and I felt a deep sense of spirituality within me.

Bagore Ki Haveli is a historic haveli located on the banks of Lake Pichola, built in the 18th century by Amir Chand Badwa, the prime minister of Mewar.

The haveli later became the residence of Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore.

Nowadays, Bagore Ki Haveli has been converted into a museum that shows royal costumes, traditional Rajasthani arts and crafts, and a collection of puppets. The evening cultural show in the haveli is one of the highlights of Udaipur, featuring traditional Rajasthani dance and music performances.

I visited Bagore Ki Haveli in the evening to watch the Dharohar Dance Show, and it was one of the best parts of my trip. The Haveli is beautifully preserved, and the cultural show gave me an insight into Rajasthani traditions.

The carvings and the beautifully decorated rooms made me feel relaxed and happy.

Shilpgram, which means the “village of artisans,” is a rural arts and crafts complex hardly about 3 kilometres from Udaipur. The complex was established by the Indian government to promote the handicrafts and rural arts of Rajasthan and nearby states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa.

This unique crafts village was inaugurated in 1989 and serves as a platform for artisans to showcase their work and share their skills.

I saw some artisans working on pottery, weaving, and other crafts, and I even picked up some beautiful items. The highlight was watching a traditional folk dance performance, which gave me a chance to know the local culture. I

it’s a great place to buy unique, handcrafted items and learn about rural life in Rajasthan.

Shilpgram hosts an annual fair, which is the highlight of the year. It attracts artisans from all over the country and showcases traditional art forms, crafts, and performances.

The Ahar Cenotaphs, about 2 kilometres from Udaipur, are an important historical site where the Maharanas of Mewar were cremated. The site consists of more than 250 cenotaphs (memorials), the most notable one being that of Maharana Amar Singh.

These cenotaphs date back over 350 years, with some constructed in the late 1600s.

The cenotaphs are designed in the traditional Rajasthani style, with intricate marble carvings, chhatris (domed pavilions), and columns. Though the site is relatively less visited by tourists, it offers a peaceful walk through the history of Mewar.

I visited the Ahar Cenotaphs early in the morning, and the place left a lasting impression on me Unlike the other busy tourist spots, this site felt serene and reflective.

The cenotaphs are beautifully designed with intricate carvings, making me appreciate Udaipur’s architectural heritage.

If you’re a history lover or just looking for a quiet, reflective spot, this is worth a visit.
